New York City’s landmarks anchor and orient the city’s more than 8 million inhabitants. This mapping traces and overlays 20 of Manhattan’s most prominent landmarks and their isovists (3D visibility viewsheds) relative to Manhattan’s three dominant grid morphologies in order to examine their reciprocal effects: (from left to right) the organic grid of Downtown, the strictly orthogonal grid of Midtown, and the open parks positioned along the diagonal cut of Broadway.
